knitalizations ( is that a word?)

Knitting with my crafty, soulful sistafriend at the beach this morning...Loving the sun and vibing on good conversation on everything, right before the big fat rain drops fell upon us ....Loving~ laughing~ living ....what else ?

I have been toying around with the ideas of not messing with patterns any more..You see despite the beautiful end project , complete and embellished , despite the fact that many admirers have come before and ventured on to making the project, posting pics an d blogging of success, I just don't get that alot around these parts. Patterns tend to frustrate me and limit me I'm guessing. I fuss with gauge and am off by many needles , or I mess up on my pattern repeats ! Starting a project for me usually means restarting that said project 2-3-4 times even ! It can get frustrating...I have come to re-learn this reality again in my quest to make MR. Knot -So-Knice his birthday hat. Perhaps it's the pregnancy , but i think back and I have had this dilemma now the 4 years i have been knitting so it's not the pregnant brain that prevents me from successfully following a pattern ! I think it's a fear that I'll do something wrong , and of course the constant nagging feeling that my gauge is off .... ( sigh)
Don't get me wrong, I have had some success and made great strides in my knitting... I have learned to co-relate life and knitting, the ego and knitting, It's been a
(for the sake of being corny) fiberific journey, hence the purchase of my latest
"grab it girl"must have : Carry all Hemp Bag ....
front pouch for a small project ( like hubby's hat )The larger section for the must haves ( we all have 'em)...
I'm in love with this bag ....Especially since one can't get arrested for toting this potent fiber in this form... ;) feel me .. ..

Don't go and get me wrong I am not mad t knitting as a whole. I LOVE KNITTING ...Its just that I am finding discomfort in patterns in general. I think the creative person in me may be feeling a little frustrated, bored, confused by fol owing a pattern... and it wants to just go and do create something that does not require such stress ....So no I won't give up patterns all together . I don't have that much skill yet , and truth be told, patterns do offer a way for the knitter to learn new techniques and the like ..so to JUST SAY NO to patterns would not be in my best interest, but for the sake of creative growth, following ones spirit ,mixed with a bit of bad ass boldness~ I will venture more and more to the land of the PATTERNLESS and create my own designs and patterns ... learn as I go and challenge my self to develop ....
This does not mean I won't be knitting "Topi" though ..I will take another knitty stab at that hat ... (I did say I was'nt entirely done)It's too F-ing "hot" not to try again...My Boo would look "hot" in it , and Jen did try to offer more support for me in my comments section...

Thank you for the coaching in the comments Jen, i am encouraged to try the patten again soon but for now I digress to a lower stress caliber ...

I am eternally grateful I posses this craft, an artful and acient skill ...

I can empathize with you on following patterns. I too get frustrated with the whole thing. Freeforming is an option and may lead to a design all your own. Can't wait to see what you create.
